Montessori for Flint is a community group that advocates for and supports free, public Montessori elementary education that is available to any family from Flint or the surrounding area who is interested in it. Our purpose is to not only create a path for the children in our lives to continue Montessori schooling beyond preschool, but to do so in a way that strengthens the local public school system and creates opportunities for all Flint families. The group started meeting in November 2015 and soon partnered with the Flint Community Schools and Alpha Kids Montessori to achieve this vision. Within nine months, a Montessori classroom was up and running.
The long-term vision of Montessori for Flint is to add a grade each year through at least middle school, and eventually serve so many families that we need our own school building.
Montessori for Flint serves as the advisory group to the Flint Community Schools' Montessori program. Advisory meetings are held monthly at the Durant Tuuri Mott library (1518 University Ave).
